Using DMX to Control LED Wash Lights

When it comes to event and lighting design, compromise rarely works. If you need a bright, vibrant light to help illuminate the smaller structures, walls or features of your venue, Vorlane has got just what you need in our range of Led wash lights.

These LED fixtures can be used in conjunction with a standard DMX setup to achieve a wide array of colours and effects. Using this method, the lighting can be synchronised to change colour, fade, strobe and jump at the same time.

DMX Control

DMX is a lighting control system that uses a data signal to change the color of LED wall wash lights. It can also be used to create effects like chases and strobes. DMX, which stands for Digital Multiplexing, allows you to control up to 512 channels in a system. Each channel controls a different function, including intensity and color. The more channels you have, the more variations you can make with your lights.

Each fixture has its own DMX address. To find out which number it has, you need to read its user manual or visit the manufacturer’s website. The DMX address can be changed using a dip switch on the unit/fixture. You can also use a DMX address calculator to determine which positions the switches need to be in for each starting address.

Once you know the DMX address, you can match it with SoundSwitch. First, you’ll need to set up a Fixture Track in the Edit Mode of SoundSwitch. Next, enter the corresponding DMX address into the Edit Mode of the light you’re controlling. Finally, you’ll need to add a terminator at the end of your DMX data cable so that the signal doesn’t bounce back through the cable and distort your lights.

The COLORstrip Mini is a 19-inch, four-channel DMX controlled LED linear wash light. It has three RGB modes for easy color mixing and a one-touch button for premixed colors. It also includes built-in automated and sound-activated programs.

Master/Slave Synchronisation

Master/slave synchronisation is a feature that can be used to control multiple fixtures, allowing you to create dynamic lighting thrills that will really wow the crowd. It works by setting one fixture as the master and the other compatible lights as slaves. You can then connect these together with DMX cables (Light 1 Led Follow spot lights Out to Light 2 In, Light 2 Out to Light 3 In etc). The first fixture acts as the DMX controller and tells the others what to do.

Typically, the wash light will have a range of different colours that it can produce and will be able to mix these to make up a variety of hues. This makes it ideal for theatrical productions where the overall atmosphere is important and also for events like concerts where creating the right mood can be key to success.

LED wash lights can be controlled by a range of different methods and have many advantages over other types of lighting. They are more cost-effective, can be more easily synchronised, and come with many built-in automated and sound-activated programmes that can really add to the impact of an event. Many of our LED wash lights are also weatherproof, meaning they can be used in a variety of settings and events without the risk of damage. They can also be operated wirelessly and are easy to set up, making them perfect for mobile entertainers.

Weatherproof

Designed to illuminate and enhance specific or large areas, DMX controllable RGB and RGBW LED wall wash lights are ideal for highlighting building outlines and creating stage light manufacturer dramatic lighting effects on bridges. They come in a range of shapes and sizes to suit your application, including rigid linear and flexible LED strip versions, and are available in various power outputs and mounting options.

For outdoor and damp locations that require resistance to moisture and water splashing, choose a light with an IP rating of at least IP65. This means the fixture is protected from dust and can be submerged in water for brief periods of time. For locations that are exposed to more complex environmental conditions, opt for a higher rating such as IP67.

Vapor Tight Fixtures

For carwash applications, look for vapor tight fixtures that are sealed against corrosive gases and other contaminants found in car wash operations. These surface mount fixtures typically mount to ceilings and other overhead surfaces, and are a popular option for portes-cocheres, covered vehicle overhangs and car wash bays.

Before installing LED strip lights outdoors, it is recommended to waterproof them using a simple DIY process. To do this, you will need a silicone sleeve that is cut to the length of your desired light strip, a bottle of translucent glue and two waterproof end caps.

Wireless

Having a full light show is an essential part of a rockin’ gig. This is why many mobile DJs and clubs have LED wash lights and color changers in their arsenal. These lights help create a base for the atmosphere in rooms and are then used to build upon with strobes, lasers and more. They also act as a safety device by helping the crowd see where they’re going and where to avoid people or objects.
